Resolution of Disapproval Passed Against Rep. Joe Wilson

NBC — The United States House has passed a resolution against representative Joe Wilson, who heckled President Obama during a speech last week.

Representative Wilson shouted, “you lie!” during President Obama’s speech to congress last week on health care.

Today, democratic leaders introduced a “resolution of disapproval” against Wilson on the house floor. The resolution passed with 240 members voting for it, and 179 voting against.

Democrats had called the action necessary, because Wilson’s behavior was disrespectful. Republicans fired back, calling the resolution a partisan act and saying it diverts attention from the real issues.

Wilson apologized to the president shortly after the speech, which Mr. Obama accepted.

Health Care Trust Poll

Submitted by .Sean (Fired Up! Missouri)

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows an even split among American voters about the President’s proposed health care reforms, but a significant difference in who’s trusted to handle health care, the economy and the deficit.Healthcare Trust Poll

Overall, “Dems hold an overwhelming 20-point lead on which party is most trusted on major issues, with Obama preferred over Republicans by 12 points on health care.”

The poll also shows that “a big majority, or 62%, believe Republicans have not made a good faith effort to cooperate with Dems on health care.”

In Memory of Chris Sifford

Governor Mel Carnahan came to rely on a special young man as both employee and close friend. The young man was Christopher Dale Sifford, who served the Missouri governor as Communications Director, Chief of Staff, and senior aide. Chris Sifford knew his place was by the side of Carnahan when the governor decided to run for the United States Senate. Sifford resigned as Chief of Staff and took on the job of senior aide.
18 Minutes and a Lifetime: A Biography of Christopher Dale SiffordOn October 16, 2000, as they rode to a Democratic rally in New Madrid, MO, on a Cessna plane piloted by the governor’s son, Roger “Randy” Carnahan, the plane dropped off radar and crashed just southwest of Hillsboro, MO. They never made it to the Democratic rally in New Madrid that night. Read the biography and story of Chris Sifford, 18 Minutes and a Lifetime, written by Linda Sedrick Pearson.

Davis has a problem with allowing citizens to vote?

by Sean (Fired Up! Missouri)

Cynthia Davis laments the loss of “freedom, property and economic security” in her most recent “Capitol Report,” citing three specific examples of freedom-destroying developments in American history: the creation of the Federal Reserve; the passage of the 16th Amendment to allow a federal income tax; and the passage of the 17th Amendment to allow direct elections of U.S. Senators.

That’s right: Cynthia Davis has a problem with allowing citizens to vote for their Senators, instead of allowing state legislatures to select them for the voters.

The U.S. Constitution’s 17th Amendment prohibited state legislatures from selecting their national senators. This reduced accountability and loyalty to the states from the U.S. Senators to the states.

Davis leaves unexplained how Sens. Kit Bond and Claire McCaskill are less loyal and accountable to Missouri, now that they’re elected and held accountable by actual voters.  Read the rest of this entry »

Taxpayers Paying for Bike Race?

by Timahoe (Fired Up! Missouri)

The Associated Press has an analysis piece this afternoon focusing on Peter Kinder’s failure to wean his bike race from taxpayer funding and how his fundraising failure places its return in doubt.

As Cynthia Davis once said, however, “hunger can be a powerful motivator.”  And if nothing else, Kinder is hungry for European-style bike racing.  But is he so hungry to make the ultimate political sacrifice for his race?

If so, watch for Kinder to deliver a version of this speech at tonight’s taxpayer funded TOM Closing Gala:

“With European sons leaving our roads, with My Bicycle Race’s future under challenge right here at home, with our hopes and the world’s hopes for the future of novelty, European-style bicycle racing in the balance every day, I do not believe that I should devote an hour or a day of my time to any personal partisan causes or to any duties other than the awesome duties of this office – the Chairmanship of the Tour of Missouri.”

“Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your Lt. Governor. But let men everywhere know, however, that a strong and a confident and a vigilant Tour of Missouri stands ready to ride again; and stands ready tonight to defend an honored cause, whatever the price, whatever the burden, whatever the sacrifice that duty may require.”
